Lohri:

Lohri is one of the famous Indian cultural festival. Lohri was celebrated primarly by Sikhs & Punjabi Hindus but nowadays this festival is celebrating all over the India whether especially celebrate by Hindus, Sikhs & Punjabi. Lohri is  a popular winter Punjabi folk festival of  Punjab region in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, celebrated on 13 January of every year. The significance and legends about the Lohri festival  festival to the Punjab region


Popcorn, gur rewri, gajjak bonfire and warmth- everything brings back memories of Lohri! People all across North India look forward to Lohri, an important harvest festival which is very popular in the region.

Some Major points about Lohri:

  • Preparation to celebrate Lohri begins with village women and children collect dry twigs and branches to make a huge bonfire on the day of Lohri-the bigger the better.

  • It's amazing to get together on the day of the festival, with the setting of the sun, the bonfire is lit with people singing and dancing to the tune of Lohri songs.

  • The munching of seasonal goodies like popcorn, reori, peanuts and sugar cane forms an integral part of the celebration.  As an offering to the Sun God, the giver of all life.
  • Interestingly, the next day of Lohri is known as Maghi, a day that signifies the beginning of the month of Magh. But In North India especially popular as  Makar Sankranti and nerar about whole India celebrate this festival with wonderful weather.
  • They Believe that this is an auspicious day to take holy dip and give away charity. Kheer is prepared in sugar cane juice to mark the day.

Makar Sankranti:



It Marking the end of the month with  with the winter solstice and days are going to be longer. In Makar Sankranti the Sun’s transit into Makara. Makar Sankranti or Maghi, is a festival day in the Hindu Calender, dedicated to the deity Surya. It is observed each year in January.

Normally Makar Sankranti is celebrate on 14th January on every year but this year Makar Sankranti will celebrate on 14th and 15th January on 2020. Mainly Makar Sankranti is celebrating on 15th January, 2020 on Wednesday.


Flying Kites in Makar Sankranti:


One more interesting things regarding the celebartion of Makar Sankranti is to Flying Kites. On the days of Makar Sankranti sky looks full of flying Kites. Childrens, Yougersters, Senior Citizens with whole family members are celebrating this festival with flying Kites.
